Abstract

The rapid growth of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) poses a significant challenge for sustainable management, particularly in developing countries. Households play a key role in waste management as major consumers of electrical and electronic equipment and generators of e-waste. This study examines household awareness, practices, and willingness to participate in organized e-waste management in Serbia. An online questionnaire survey was conducted in Novi Sad. The results show that, although most respondents are aware of the hazardous nature of e-waste and the need for special treatment, regular participation in formal recycling remains limited. Storing old devices at home is a common practice, mainly due to insufficient information and a lack of accessible collection infrastructure. Despite this, a high willingness to participate in organized e-waste collection systems was identified. Household income significantly influences the willingness to financially support e-waste management, while age and education show no significant effect. The findings highlight the need for improved collection systems, strengthened awareness campaigns, and appropriate economic incentives to support e-waste management and circular economy objectives.
